Hotel Spotlight: Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection

Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection, Virtuoso

Madeline Hotel and Residences by Auberge Resorts in Telluride is a Forbes five-star resort and exclusive Virtuoso property. Located in southwest Colorado, Telluride is considered one of the best ski towns in the United States. Its splendid alpine beauty has been attracting adventure-hungry visitors to Telluride for years. The fact that only about 2,000 residents live in the area enhances its exclusivity.  The hotel has 83 newly renovated rooms and 71 residences. These accommodations give guests an incredible view of the San Juan Mountains and the Mountain Village.

Arrival and Flights

When visiting Madeline Hotel and Residences, most people prefer flying into Montrose Airport (MTJ) and driving to the resort over flying into Telluride’s airport (TEX). This is particularly convenient during the winter months. The weather can inhibit the performance of the smaller planes flying into the much smaller Telluride airport. Not to mention, Telluride airport has one of the shortest runways in North America. Montrose Airport’s mainline passenger jets provide the most convenient access route to Telluride’s popular ski areas.

No need to rent a car as the hotel grounds and surrounding village are easily walkable. Guests can also take a 10-minute gondola ride into town daily from 7 am to midnight. This complimentary gondola public transport system was built in 1996 and is the only one of its kind in North America.

We recommend staying for 3-5 nights to ensure enough time to enjoy some relaxation as well as adventure. We always propose booking as far in advance as possible to lock in pricing and availability. The Penthouse and Residence accommodations sell out particularly fast, especially during the winter months! However, you can check out our guide to planning ahead for travel to ease your preparations.

Check-In

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with their choice of champagne or hard cider as a welcome drink and a reusable water bottle to use throughout their stay. Guests always have access to chlorophyll, charcoal, and filtered water available in the lobby to combat altitude sickness. After a quick tour of the main areas of the hotel, we were escorted to our room.

Accommodations

Madeline’s rooms are equipped with fireplaces, kitchenettes, and balconies that give you a perfect view of the Mountain Village. In addition, other notable features include steam showers, deep-soaking bathtubs, and adventure bars.

However, if you’re looking for more space, the residences are ski-in and ski-out and offer the space and comforts of home with the amenities and services of the hotel. The residences range from one to four bedrooms with a full gourmet kitchen, inviting living and dining areas, washer/dryer, and a gas fireplace. The residences vary in size from 1,200 to 3,900 square feet, based on the number of rooms. What better way to relax than from the comfort of your own residence with views of the San Juan Mountains or the ice skating rink.

Personal Services for Residences include:

  • Dedicated Residence Services Team
  • Slope-side, Full-Service Ski Valet
  • In-Residence dining, bellman, housekeeping, and maintenance 24/7

Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection, Black Iron Restaurant

Food and Drink

Be sure to try some of Madeline’s hearty cuisines made with a modern touch. You can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner, as well as a Sunday brunch at Black Iron Kitchen and Bar. While at Black Iron, you can relax around the fire tables or congregate with other guests at the social hub, which is located in the Timber Room. Their chefs can personalize the hotel menu to match your occasion, especially if you want to share a romantic meal with a loved one. We recommend the baked potato with crème fraîche and caviar and the Rocky Mountain Elk Loin with local huckleberry jus. During the winter, they have fire pits in the alfresco area; providing sheepskin blankets to cozy up in while sipping drinks and chatting.

Pro-tip: If you’re looking for a local spot to enjoy lunch or dinner in town — Brown Dog Pizza was excellent!

Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection, Timber Room

Facilities

Madeline Hotel and Residences is located in the ski village of Telluride and sits practically at the base of the lift. It resembles a Swiss chateau full of colorful artwork and mountain-inspired touches. If you want to head into town, it will only take 30 seconds to walk to the gondola from the hotel, with a lift ticket sale point just beneath it if you’re hitting the slopes. Otherwise, rides on the gondola are complimentary!

The ability to reserve your skiing equipment prior to your arrival from an in-house ski rental shop adds to the convenience. During a day of relaxation, you can enjoy the heated pool and jacuzzi.

Pro-tip: A trip to Telluride in the summer months is also enjoyable, as the Madeline Hotel is the only hotel in Telluride with air conditioning.

Activities

Madeline Hotel and Residences is an adventure-geared resort. Popular activities include skiing, horseback riding, heli-skiing, dog sledding, fly-fishing, guided snowmobile tours, scenic flights and day adventures to Moab, and snowshoeing. There are plenty of activities for all during every season of the year.

The resort is complete with an Alpine Swim Club terrace, hot tubs, a heated pool, a pilates and yoga facility, a kid’s club called 20 Below, and an ice-skating rink. You can also arrange for an in-room spa treatment or visit the hotel’s spa to enjoy your curated wellness treatments.

Furthermore, other activities include complimentary s’mores every night, visiting the local Farmers Market open to the public every Wednesday in the hotel plaza, and the annual Telluride film, blues, and mushroom festivals.

Pro-tip: Don’t miss the complimentary champagne offered at the Alphorn Ceremony daily at 4pm!

Enjoy the Five-Star Experience of Four Seasons Costa Rica

Four Seasons Costa Rica

Costa Rica

As a top 30 Preferred Partner travel advisory, Four Seasons Costa Rica invited us to visit their property to experience the new and exciting renovations and developments. In this hotel spotlight, we’ll share an inside look at what you can expect during your stay at Four Seasons Costa Rica.

The third smallest country in Latin America, Costa Rica, draws the greatest number of travelers for its lush rainforests and eco-luxury tourism. The country boasts unspoiled beaches and forests, offering Latin America’s ultimate coastal retreat on both its Pacific and its Caribbean Sea coastlines. Living by the slogan “Pura Vida,” meaning pure life, the culture here embraces a way of life that values a laid-back and simple kind of living.

Bookings and Flights

Flying into the nearby Liberia (LIR) airport offers the most efficient arrival experience. The airport services both private flights and commercial flights. To upgrade your arrival experience, ask us about our Hotel Plus service. We can assist with pre-arranging your roundtrip transfers to the hotel and also add VIP Fast Track to expedite you through customs and immigration:

  • Meet and Greet at the gate
  • Fast Track or Expedite through immigration and customs
  • Assistance with luggage collection
  • Porter service
  • Escort to your vehicle

Four Seasons Costa Rica is about a 45-minute drive from the LIR airport. When arranging transportation through the Four Seasons, you can expect your car to be stocked with refreshments and snacks for you to enjoy after a long flight. These include dried plantains and popcorn, and local drinks, including local cerveza and bottled water. The winding roads meander through the hilly terrain as you travel to the edge of the peninsula.

When considering your length of stay, we recommend staying at least five nights at the property. This allows you to see all that the area offers and take advantage of the special opportunities Four Seasons provides. The time of year when you should visit depends on the experience you desire. From December to April, Costa Rica offers its sunniest days with drier weather. And while its wet season occurs from May to November, this is the best time to take advantage of low occupancy and cost-effective rates.

Pro-tip: The best way to secure the most cost-effective rates is by booking ahead! We recommend booking a trip as far in advance as 11 months out. Read our blog Planning Ahead for Travel in 2023 for more details.

Check-In

Four Seasons offers check-in at its fabulous open-air lobby. The resort, located on Papagayo Peninsula, offers one of the most luxurious stays in Costa Rica. Sprawling across 45 acres of jungle, the resort staff greets each guest by name, with fresh coconut water, and a chilled towel.

The hotel offers a selection of snacks and a “make your own Bloody Mary” as a welcome amenity upon arrival in your accommodations. Next, to cap off the check-in, we toured the resort via golf cart, learning the locations of its two beaches, four swimming pools, 18-hole golf course, restaurants, and spa.

four seasons costa ricaAccommodations

The resort’s accommodations consist of 180 rooms, suites, villas, and residences. We personally enjoyed a stay in one of the Canopy Plunge Pool Suites. It offers views of the Costa Rican coast from the jungle canopy and its own private plunge pool. Simply take a quick golf cart ride to any of the resort’s facilities or walk there in just five minutes.

Each marble bathroom includes a deep soaking tub and a separate glass-enclosed shower, and the design places the wash closet in a separate room. Relax in an infamous Four Seasons robe while enjoying the tea and coffee service that, of course, features Costa Rican coffee. All guests are pampered with twice-daily housekeeping service, evening turndown service, ice delivery, self-service washer and dryers with eco-friendly detergent, and Four Seasons staple 24-hour in-room dining.

The resort also includes the Prieta Villas and Estates, a gated area on the property with accommodations that provides three to five bedrooms — ideal for a family vacation. Staying in the villas affords you access to the private Prieta Club, its private beach, kids’ club, and a fifth exclusive restaurant at the resort, only available to guests of these accommodations.

Pro-tip: Open up the patio doors in the morning and lie in bed with coffee to take in the relaxing moment.

The newest and most exciting addition to Four Seasons Costa Rica’s inventory is their exotic residence known as Casa Las Olas. A custom-built 6-bedroom villa perfect for families, retreats, getaways with friends, high-profile board meetings, and small event gatherings. With a generous amount of space at 18,000 square feet, the residence has a maximum sleeping occupancy of 12 adults, or 8 adults and 8 children, and dedicated staff for the duration of your stay. Within the bi-level residence, guests enjoy captivating views from the 150-foot infinity-edge pool, a magnificent tropical courtyard, and large indoor-outdoor living spaces with views of the Pacific Ocean and the pristine Virador Beach.

Restaurants

The Four Seasons Costa Rica offers four restaurants – Bahia, Añejo, Pesce, and Nemare. The Bahia offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner crafted from locally sourced ingredients, including fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices. During your stay, make room for a traditional breakfast of gallo pinto, complimentary daily with Team O’s Preferred Partner perks. Dine on the patio to enjoy both pool views and the Gulf of Papagayo. If you visit in 2023, check out their brand-new coffee shop.

The Añejo also offers laid-back outdoor dining on its open-air patio. At dusk, enjoy a digestif as the atmosphere changes to a party scene at sunset. If you’d prefer a more intimate dinner setting, choose Pesce, open only for dinner. Its dimly lit interior with panoramic ocean views offers the ideal romantic setting. Also, its delicious Italian cuisine and extensive wine list complete the romantic ambiance.

Finally, stop by Nemare for a bite to eat after a round of golf at the resort’s 18-hole course. Located on the Peninsula Papagayo at the course’s clubhouse, the restaurant combines a steakhouse menu with local culture and food. Its name, nemare, means “smoke in Chorotega.

Pro-tip: Don’t miss the chance for an evening nightcap of the country’s national liquor, guaro. It’s a small batch of rum typically mixed with cola.

four seasons costa rica

Facilities and Activities

The Four Seasons Costa Rica offers many activities on properties. The resort includes three swimming pools, a spa, a surfing school, zip lining, yoga, a sports club, and a golf course.

Your stay at Four Seasons Costa Rica also includes 25 complimentary classes and activities. The resort offers snorkeling tours in the morning, birdwatching tours, and guided nature hikes with the opportunity to view more than 400 wildlife species in nature. The moonlit kayak tour offers breathtaking views through Blanca Bay. Explore the area’s many volcanoes on a guided hike or embark on a half or full-day boat excursion.

Pro-tip: We definitely recommend the boat excursion — it was a lot of fun! They take you to a private island beach where you can picnic, jet ski, snorkel, or simply enjoy the water on anchored lounging floats.

The beach cabanas at the resort offer a respite from the sun while soaking in the beautiful sounds and views of the Pacific Ocean.

Pro-tip: We recommend the ahi tuna salad and champagne for lunch, delivered to your cabana.

The Spa offers both wellness and spa experiences including guided meditation, massages, facials, body treatments, reiki, sound therapy, and more. We chose the Rainforest 60-minute Massage. This treatment included setting an intention with incense before the treatment, aromatherapy oils of your choice used during the massage, followed by fresh coconut water and Costa Rican chocolates.

The Kids For All Seasons Club for children ages 4 to 12 years offers nature activities, arts and crafts, and their own kids’ center to enjoy.

Hotel Spotlight: The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort, Scottsdale

Located at the base of Camelback Mountain, The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort, Scottsdale has three luxury offerings on property: The Phoenician Resort, The Canyon Suites boutique hotel, and The Phoenician Residences. Immerse yourself in the property’s amenities, which include a multi-level pool, spa facility, athletic club, golf course, and restaurants.

The Phoenician Resort

The Phoenician has reimagined itself through recent renovations to all guest rooms (including Canyon Suites), pools, lobby, spa, athletic club, golf course, and more. While this is a large resort with 450+ rooms, each area, including the guest rooms, is spacious and personalized.

Rooms, Suites, and Casitas

The rooms, suites, and casitas at The Phoenician have a contemporary design influenced by the desert surroundings, complete with original signed artwork. All rooms feature a private terrace or balcony, and a bathroom with a separate tub and shower. Located in the heart of Scottsdale with views of the mountain, city, pools, and golf course – there’s no such thing as a bad view here!

Opposite the main building, there are twelve, two-story casitas with 119 rooms and suites. Guests staying in the casitas may call for complimentary transfers to the main building and other resort areas.

The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician

For a more intimate experience, The Canyon Suites, located on the complex, has only 60 rooms — 40 suites and 20 guest rooms. The boutique-style resort offers exclusive access to an infinity pool with cabanas, Canyon Lounge, Canyon Grill, and a shuttle service. The staff-to-guest ratio is better than 2-to-1, perfect for guests looking for personalized concierge service. Canyon Suites guests can also enjoy access to the wealth of Phoenician facilities.

The Phoenician Residences

In high demand, The Phoenician Residences are fit for guests looking to enjoy access to all the facilities from the comfort of their own private residence. The Residences include a full kitchen, rich hardware floors, a fireplace, a private plunge pool, an outdoor summer kitchen with a gas grill, and more. Ranging from 2-3 bedrooms (1,400 to 2,400 square feet) these residences are perfect for large groups and families.

Experiences

The Phoenician is my top recommendation in Scottsdale for families looking to make the most of their time on property — there is something for every type of traveler:

  • The Phoenician Golf Club: The course offers four sets of tees, ranging from 4,575 to 6,518 yards.
  • Spa: From massages and facial treatments to a full-service salon, spend the day unwinding at the spa.
  • Athletic Club: Complete with a movement studio, game room, tennis, pickle ball, and basketball courts, and more.
  • Pools: The multi-tiered Phoenician pools offer a variety of lounging options, an adult-only pool, a kids’ zone with a treehouse, and pool-side dining.

Elevated Dining

The Phoenician’s culinary team offers eight restaurants ranging from casual dining to intimate steakhouse dinners. The J&G Steakhouse features floor-to-ceiling windows that blend into a scenic outdoor patio. Guests can enjoy classic surf & surf with a view of the desert sunset. Mowry & Cotton is a more casual indoor/outdoor dining option, which offers modern American cuisine and craft cocktails. For brunch-goers, I would recommend their Smoked Brisket Eggs Benedict and the Green Nectar fresh juice.

Plan Your Stay with Ourisman Travel

Book your stay at The Phoenician with Team Ourisman to enjoy value-added STARS amenities:

  • Room view upgrade on arrival, subject to availability (not applicable towards Suites)
  • Daily A la Carte breakfast, for two guests per bedroom in restaurant or in-room dining (up to $65 credit for 2)
  • $100 USD equivalent Food & Beverage credit utilized during stay
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Hotel Spotlight: Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, A Gurney’s Resort & Spa

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, A Gurney’s Resort & Spa is a luxury, boutique resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. The resort is set on the northern slope of Camelback Mountain, overlooking Paradise Valley. With only 109 rooms, each guest is promised a personalized and unique experience.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain can be easily accessed from the PHX airport, which is about 20 mins from the resort. Ourisman Travel clients can book transportation in advance with the concierge directly, or utilize our Hotel Plus service which includes concierge assistance. Guests will be greeted upon arrival at the airport and transferred to the resort. I used this service and enjoyed the seamless process. Upon arrival, I was greeted by their attentive staff who offered my group bottled water and led us to the lobby for check-in.

The best time of the year to visit Scottsdale is from late September to November and March to early May. While visiting during their off-peak season can be very hot, the pros include lower rates, easy restaurant reservations, and sunny pool weather. The nightly rates increase during their peak season, but the earlier you book, the better.

Casitas, Suites, and Villas

The resort’s Casitas, Suites, and Villas are nestled among the red rock and lush desert. The large windows and spacious rooms help to blend indoors and outdoors. The room design is contemporary and chic, with earthy tones and textures, and desert-inspired local artwork. Scottsdale is a vast art city with a street of art galleries in Old Town. Despite being in a desert, the rooms are kept at cool temperatures. Here are the types of rooms available in the resort, with each having a walk-in shower and soaking tub:

  • Mountain Casita, King or Double: entry-level room, 500 sqft.
  • Casitas (Mountain, Camelback, Terrace, Spa Patio) range from 500-875 sqft.
  • Suites (Mountain, Camelback, Spa, Two Bedroom) range from 1,000 to 1,500 sqft.

The Spa Suites, located near the spa, are fit for guests looking for ultimate relaxation. They’re even more spacious and earthy-toned than the other rooms featuring an Asian-inspired design. Each of the Spa Suites also includes an outdoor soaking tub and glass rock fireplace, which are especially useful in the evening or the winter months when it gets cooler.

Eight Private Villas sit higher on the mountain above the resort and are accessible by car or golf cart (can be rented during your stay or you can call staff to pick you up). Pro tip – we’ve been told that many A-list celebrities have stayed in the Villas due to their privacy and perfect views!

Food and Bev

Watching the sunrise or sunset on Camelback Mountain during dinner or breakfast is one of the most beautiful scenes at Sanctuary. The food at the Elements restaurant is world-class and a must-try while on property.

Chef Beau MacMillan leads the team at the restaurant, which is responsible for breakfast, lunch, poolside services, and dinner. The menu is highly seasonal, but they tend to offer American Cuisine with Asian accents. Ourisman Travel clients can also leverage their Virtuoso amenity, which offers daily breakfast credit for two guests per bedroom (up to $30.00 per guest/$60.00 maximum per room per day). On the dinner menu, the Charred Octopus is a must!

If you are into cocktails, the Jade Bar under Christian Rollich is known for exceptional mixology, using fresh, local fruits, juices, herbs, and vegetables. You must try the Mekong cocktail, a mixture of gin and lemongrass with coconut, carrot, kaffir lime, ginger & citrus. The Jade Bar menu is also available at the pool.

Facilities and Activities

Sanctuary was originally designed as a tennis resort in the 1950s, meaning tennis and pickleball are popular activities amongst guests. Other amenities available to guests include complimentary access to daily spa facilities, a fitness center, and daily wellness classes, including Paddle Board Yoga and Sound Meditation.

A free shuttle service takes guests into Old Town Scottsdale or within a five-mile radius, allowing you to explore the area without extra charges. You can use the free shuttle to visit the golf clubs (Phoenician, Eagle Mountain, Troon North, etc.), which are just 5-20 minutes from the resort.

Pool and Spa

The resort’s main pool, the Infinity Edge Pool, is exclusively adult-only on the weekends. Guests must be at least 16 years or older to gain access. Two satellite pools are located on property as an alternative for guests traveling with family members 15 years and younger.

Camelback Mountain Resort is one of the top destination spas in the country; we highly recommend booking a spa treatment to get the whole experience of Sanctuary Resort. You can leverage the Virtuoso amenity ($100 Spa credit to be utilized during stay) for a valuable and unforgettable experience. The spa offers an extensive spa menu, including Asian-inspired treatments rooted in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbal medicine, and spa facilities, including showers, a jacuzzi, a steam room, and a quiet meditation room, available for all hotel guests to enjoy.

Plan Your Vacation with Ourisman Travel

The name “Sanctuary” speaks for itself. This resort is ideal for travelers looking for a weekend getaway with exclusive spa services. As a Virtuoso affiliate, Ourisman Travel clients can enjoy the following value-added amenities:

  • Upgrade on arrival (subject to availability)
  • Daily breakfast credit for two guests per bedroom (up to $30.00 per guest/$60.00 maximum per room, per day)

Hotel Spotlight: Four Seasons Nevis

The Four Seasons Nevis is the perfect beachfront oasis for a luxury getaway. In June, the Four Seasons Nevis invited Ourisman Travel, a top 30 Preferred Partner agency to experience this peaceful hideaway firsthand.

Bookings and Flights

If you’re arriving by an international commercial flight, you will likely land at Robert L Bradshaw (SKB) in neighboring St Kitts. Outside the airport, you will be greeted by Four Seasons staff members and escorted to a nearby marina to board a ferry boat. Your transfer can be private or shared with other Four Seasons guests. From there, it’s an 18-20 minute ferry ride to the island. Enjoy refreshments of choice as you make the short journey to the gorgeous Four Seasons Nevis.

Alternatively, you can arrive directly to Nevis on a smaller regional aircraft or private jet by flying into Vance Amory International Airport (NEV), and transferring to the resort by vehicle.

If you need our assistance with choosing the best option for you, we can assist with your transportation logistics through our Hotel Plus concierge assistance service.

Check-in

Once you arrive at Four Seasons Nevis, you will feel like you are stepping back in time, like how the Caribbean used to be decades ago as you take in the lush landscape with the majestic Nevis Peak towering behind the resort. You won’t find any new high-rise hotels on this island as no dwelling can be taller than a coconut tree. The island also does not host large cruise ships that you may see docked at neighboring St. Kitts.

You are met on arrival by your personal host— we loved how warm and welcoming the personal hosts were— and escorted to your accommodation.

To get the most out of the island, we recommend a 5-6 night stay. This will be enough to enjoy the dormant volcano views, great food, a dreamy town, and a five-star guest experience at the Four Seasons resort.

The nightly rate will depend on when you book (the sooner, the better). The starting rates also depend on your dates and category. For instance, an entry-level Nevis Peak room will cost you between $555—$1770 per night depending on the season.

The rooms are set up with personalized handwritten notes from the Four Seasons team and from your trusty Preferred Partner travel advisor! You will love the warm and friendly staff, most of whom have worked in the resort for years. In fact, Four Seasons is the second largest employer on the island.

Rooms

Four Seasons has both guest rooms and suites that are housed in gingerbread-trimmed buildings, no more than two stories high. The rooms are large and recently renovated in 2019. They feature a contemporary design with a bright tropical theme enhanced by floral fabrics in soft shades of beige, yellow and pink.

Each room category offers amazing views. You can enjoy endless sunrises over the cloud-capped Nevis Peak right from your patio or balcony in the entry-level Nevis Peak View Rooms, as well as views of the Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course. For families with young children, the Ocean Side Rooms with a private patio and access to a fenced-in grass area are a great choice. Traveling with kids has never been more convenient when you can take advantage of the complimentary self-service laundry room available in each building.

For large families or groups, the resort has over 50 residences, villas and estate homes. The Sunset Hill Villas are ideally situated higher on Nevis Peak, offering breathtaking views of the Caribbean sea and the island of St Kitts. For guests who prefer to be close to the beach and enjoy modern decor, Pinney’s Beach Villas will be the perfect fit.

Food and Drink

The resort features seven gourmet restaurants and bars you can pick from. Four Season’s cuisine is a combination of localized dining experiences and modern and international cooking techniques. EsQuilina is where your complimentary Preferred Partner breakfast is served (if you forgo room service breakfast). By night, it is a great place to go on a culinary journey with a chef’s table and drink pairings.

For cigar and rum lovers, The Crowned Monkey Rum Bar is great for tastings and enjoying a nice cigar. Repeat guests can even purchase lockers that store their collection of cigars and rums at the bar when they return to the property. For a laid-back dining experience, stop by Kastaway’s Beach Bar for lunch. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a rum punch or Carib (popular Caribbean beer) with your toes in the sand.

The resort offers complimentary meals for children five years old and under at all restaurants.

Pro tip: We recommend dinner reservations in advance.

Facilities

With almost 3 miles of pristine beachfront, there is no shortage of beach chairs to take in the views of the Caribbean sea, or you may choose to relax at one of the resorts three pools. The new signature Limin pool is a sight to behold. Surrounded by lush landscaping and four private cabanas, this is most popular pool on the property. The Calypso Pool, located right next to the Kid’s Club, is ideal for children and families, complete with its own splash pad!

Unwind and lounge in tropical treatments and scents at the peaceful Spa at Four Seasons Resort Nevis. Unwind with a massage treatment or visit the salon for a manicure.

Play on your choice of three different court surfaces or four new pickleball courts, managed by world-renowned Troon Peter Burwash International at the resort’s top-rated tennis centre. The 18-Hole Robert Trent Jones II signature golf course is woven into the island’s landscape, winding over 6,766 yards from the slopes of Nevis Peak down to the edge of the Caribbean Sea. This par 71 course offers amazing views from every green and fairway. An enhancement of the golf course and renovation of the tennis courts was completed in November 2022. This makes Four Seasons Nevis one of the better properties in the Caribbean for tennis, pickle ball and golf. You can even book private lessons with a pro.

Stay active with the workout equipment provided at the fully air-conditioned Sports Pavilion or book a private or group fitness class during your stay.

Activities

There is no shortage of activities while in Nevis. Guests of the Four Seasons Nevis can enjoy:

  • Complimentary non-motorized watersports, including kayaking, snorkeling and standup paddleboard, just to name a few.
  • A Catamaran cruise from the resort. These cruises provide the unique opportunity to explore the stretch of the Caribbean Sea between the two neighbouring islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.
  • Take an island tour with a local guide or historians. Nevis is home to many firsts, including the first hotel in the Caribbean, the Bath Hotel, and the first integrated Church, the Cottle Church. The island was also home to U.S. Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, who was born in Charlestown in 1755. Hamilton fans will enjoy a visit to the Alexander Hamilton museum.
  • Visit the Botanical Gardens created by Joseph and Martha Murphy.
  • Send kids to the hotel’s exclusive Kids For All Seasons program for ages 3-9 years old.
  • Families will enjoy minigolf or eco-bio golf.
  • Watch and interact with sea turtles (the best time for this is during the nesting season, between June and October) If you’re lucky, you will see sea turtles while snorkeling right off the resort’s beach.
  • Private beach and pool cabanas are available to rent daily and come fully equipped.
  • Nevis is home to Green Vervet monkeys. Animal lovers can participate in the resort’s complimentary monkey-spotting tours.

Four Season has partnered with the Sea Turtle Conservancy to educate and create awareness about sea turtles in Nevis. They have also collaborated on a program to help researchers study the immigration patterns of endangered species that have made a home on Nevis island. There are three sea turtle species in Nevis: hawksbill, the leatherback, and the green turtle.

One key highlight of our visit to Four Seasons was the release of Brownie, an adult hawksbill turtle named after our affiliate agency, Brownell Travel. Brownie was released on June 24, 2022, with a satellite transmitter. She was found nesting on Lover’s Beach Nevis!

Brownie will participate in the 2022 ‘Tour de Turtles’, and you can track her on the Sea  Turtles Conservancy Website.

Travel Serendipity – Queen Elizabeth II

The world’s attention over the past week has been on the city of London, the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and the ascension of King Charles III to the throne. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to flock to London to pay their final respects to their Queen and to be a part of this historic moment in world history.

Two Ourisman Travel clients found themselves in London by chance. Arriving just as the Queen’s death was being announced, they checked into their hotel literally around the corner from Buckingham Palace, The Goring. At the center of everything that was going on, they witnessed long lines of well-wishers in front of the Palace. They heard the 96 gun salute from Hyde Park (one shot for each year of the Queen’s life). They were witnesses to history, and they could not have chosen a better hotel in London. Sometimes known as Buckingham Palace’s guest house, The Goring also hosted Princess Katherine and the Middleton family before her wedding to Prince William.

After five days in London, they traveled to Edinburgh. Among the opportunities awaiting them — to walk the same route walked by Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward and to visit St. Giles Cathedral where Queen Elizabeth II lay in state. Our clients will be staying at The Balmoral, in our opinion the best hotel in Edinburg.

Serendipity (noun) — the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

You could never have planned such a trip, just an incredible occurrence of travel serendipity.

Hotel Spotlight: Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

four-seasons-overwater-bungalows

French Polynesia is on the bucket list of most travel enthusiasts, and Four Seasons Bora Bora is at the top of the list. The Four Seasons resort is situated directly in front of Mount Otemanu, and the magnificent views available from any angle at the resort are hard to ignore.

As a top 30 Preferred Partner travel advisory, we were invited by Four Seasons to visit their Bora Bora property back in June. This hotel spotlight details all you need to know about Four Seasons Bora Bora. This includes some privileges you get to enjoy when you book your reservation with Ourisman Travel.

Bookings and Flights

Compared to other overwater resort destinations like the Maldives, whose flight time can consume an entire day, Bora Bora is only eight hours away from LA. Our trip was hosted by Air Tahiti and flew from LAX-PPT-BOB, but you can also fly SFO-PPT-BOB and new service from Seattle SEA-PPT-BOB. For those frequent flier loyalists, United also flies to PPT, and Delta will be adding service beginning December 17 from LAX. We also recommend booking VIP meet and greet in PPT – only $450 roundtrip for up to six people.

Since the recommended length of stay is five to six days, we highly recommend the red eye to arrive and enjoy your first full day on the property to get the most value from your stay. Although it can’t be guaranteed, as a Preferred Partner booking, you are top of the list for an early check-in if it’s available.

As its name suggests, Four Seasons Bora Bora is a great year-round destination. While January and February get the most rain, the showers pass quickly. The Four Seasons starting rates range and depend on your dates and bungalow category, anywhere between $1,500 to $5,500 per night. The nightly rate depends on when you book; the sooner, the better!

Check-In

The Four Seasons hotel is perched on a small strip of land protected from the outer reef while maintaining tiny lagoons that are central to the resort. The sound of waves can be heard throughout the resort and from your bungalow, giving you a surreal experience where all you can see is a calm lagoon.

The check-in experience starts at the Bora Bora airport. Once you leave the airport, you are picked up by an exclusive Four Seasons boat. It’s a swift ride, about ten minutes from the airport, and it’s highly convenient when you land in Bora Bora.

On arrival at Four Seasons, you are greeted by the hotel staff and gifted fresh Tiare (Tahitian flower) lei and a welcome beverage. On departure, guests receive a Polynesian Pipi Shell lei. The entire check-in process is relatively quick, and the hotel staff will take you to your room via tour around the property while you wait for your luggage to arrive. Once you arrive in your room, you are given a tour of the room and all the different amenities in the room.

Rooms

Every overwater bungalow at the Four Seasons hotel is suite-style, meaning you have a separate bedroom and living room. The rooms are spectacular overall, with various options based on your budget and needs. Pro-tip: Mountain View (Mount Otemanu) Overwater Bungalow Suites are most sought after!

The overwater bungalows have a large living room with walls that completely open up to a large private terrace with chaise lounges, lagoon access, and an outdoor shower. The living room features an extensive minibar, seating area, and television. The bathroom divides the living room from the bedroom and features a large bathtub open entirely to the outside.

The king bedroom is what you would expect from a top luxury hotel brand – luxurious and comfy. The whole bungalow has a fresh smell of wood and exudes a spa-like feeling. The interior of the rooms has so many natural wood accents, beautiful rugs on the floor, and incredible lighting.

The accent lighting in the room, the way they have designed their bathrooms, lighting underneath the vanity, and other accent lights on art and around the room are stunning. There are also cut-outs in the room to allow natural lighting, which creates a pleasant atmosphere. We also fell in love with the small details, like the infamous glass bottom view of the lagoon water, coffee table books, artwork, and true feeling of home.

Food and Drink

Booking your Four Seasons reservation through Ourisman Travels gets you 100+ USD resort credits for incidentals such as food, drinks, and the spa. While you can get complimentary breakfast daily at the restaurant (Tere Nui), you can also choose to experience in-room dining, allowing you to enjoy breakfast in your bathrobe from your overwater bungalow. Pro-tip: Start your day with breakfast delivered to the private deck of your overwater bungalow in a ceremonial Polynesian canoe!

The Four Seasons Bora Bora has a full minibar in every room. What better way to apply your 100+ USD credit than from the multiple options available at the resort, from champagne to wine to cocktails. The resort refills the tea and espresso every day and it is complimentary.

With four restaurants plus special dining experiences, there’s no shortage of great dining experiences here! Plus, children four years old and under receive complimentary meals.

Facilities

The Four Seasons hotel has everything you need for a perfect beach vacation in Bora Bora. The hotel even provides a boat shuttle that goes into town; you can either do a private transfer for about $50 per person or join a shared transfer that goes daily from 12:30pm to 3:30pm for about $17 per person.

The resort also has an incredible beachfront with a pool area that is a fantastic place to hang out. The beach and pool service are what you would expect from Four Seasons including daily pool amenities such as chilled towels, ice water, Evian spritz, frozen fruit, and other iced treats.

There is no need to pay for laundry services here, as there are guest laundry services that you can access yourself for free on your pontoon!

Activities

One of the most remarkable features of the property is the beautiful lagoons that have small beaches and sit on the white sand. Another cool thing is how Four Seasons is leaning into the marine biology aspect of their surroundings.

They have beautiful bio rocks that they have created to grow oral out of them, and they’ve actually acquired a lot of fish that have taken over these lagoons. On-site marine biologists are available for snorkeling with guests to view coral, tropical fish, and rays and explain the resort’s coral grafting. You can also borrow kayaks and paddle boards free of charge, as well as snorkel gear, and if you are lucky, you might spot the extremely rare octopus! Other activities include:

  • Circle the island by Waverunner
  • Scuba diving
  • Tennis and ping pong
  • Teen program at Chill Island, which also includes marine biology activists
  • Swim with stingrays and sharks
  • Polynesian adventure with the hotel’s exclusive Kids For All Seasons program for ages 5-12

Hotel Spotlight: Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Zadún, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is one of five Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties – the brand’s most luxurious and secluded resorts. The exclusive Reserve resorts are set in exotic locations around the world, nestled within the natural beauty of each destination. Each Reserve property promises a personalized and unique experience based entirely on each guest’s preferences.

Open in 2019, Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a Mexican paradise perched in the dunes of Puerto Los Cabos. Travelers can enjoy the remote escape, yet are still within reach of downtown San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

Upon arrival at the 115-room property, guests are welcomed with a cold towel and nutritious drink upon arrival. You are then greeted by your Tosoani, also known as your private butler, who whisks you away to your room for your check-in experience. Your Tosoani is your dedicated butler who you are able to communicate with directly to ensure all of your needs and desires are met during your stay.

Zadún, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Zadún, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve

The collection of rooms, villas, and suites are designed to blend indoor and outdoor living. The Ocean View King Rooms are the entry-level “rooms” here starting at an impressive 750 square feet. Rooms in this category with even numbers are on the ground floor and have outdoor showers, but may not have as great of an ocean view. Second-level rooms with odd numbers do not have outdoor showers but will have better ocean views. The room design combines the perfect blend of modern elements with Mexican artistry and nature. Each room is complete with a plunge pool and paired with complimentary beach hats and bags for you to use while on the property and to bring home with you as a keepsake. And 24-hour in-room dining means enjoying meals on your terrace next to your plunge pool at any hour! What better what to spend your $150 STARS resort credit?

While the beach on this property is not considered one of the swimmable beaches in Cabo, the resort is comprised of three pools – the infinity pool, adult pool, and spa pool, along with the private pools in every room, suite, and villa. With a focus on wellness at this resort, your stay wouldn’t be complete without recharging at the Alkemia Spa with treatments that include a sound bath, massage, facial, body scrub, and more. One of the most unique aspects is the Savasana Sound Room which is an aromatherapy inhalation room for post-treatment resting.

There are several different dining options at Zadun, each with a unique Latin American flare. Humo, the main restaurant, is an Argentinean-inspired grill, with endless steak and seafood options. El Barrio, where you can enjoy your complimentary breakfast for two daily, has a Mexican street market feel, with huevos rancheros in the morning and endless tacos throughout the day. And Equis is the adults-only raw bar where the food menu is based solely on the catch of the day, with offerings including Chocolata Clams, Baja Oysters, and a variety of ceviches among others.

The service is on par with what you would expect from a luxury hotel, with the added bonus of your Tosoani who plays a rather large role in the overall service experience. Most importantly, this resort truly has something for everyone. This option is great for honeymooners (hello private plunge pools!), couples traveling together, groups, and families with children of all ages. Guests here can expect complete privacy thanks to incredible room design, while also enjoying the resort’s public amenities.

And while you can’t redeem or earn Marriott points here, Ourisman Travel clients can enjoy value-added STARS amenities such as complimentary breakfast, resort credits, and more. For more information on Zadun or other luxury hotels in Los Cabos, reach out to our team at [email protected] or submit a travel request form!
