Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort, is Now Open!

Nestled along the picturesque shores of the Kona Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii, this highly anticipated remodeled resort promises to redefine the art of hospitality, offering guests an exquisite blend of authentic Hawaiian culture, world-class amenities, and breathtaking surroundings. From a fishing village to a five-star bungalow retreat, we believe Rosewood is the perfect brand to revive a once-ruined landscape.

A Rich Cultural Legacy

The location of Kona Village is rooted in steep Hawaiian history dating back centuries. It was once a thriving fishing village. Then, in 1965, Johno Jackson and his wife Helen discovered the abandoned village and established the Kona Village Resort, which became renowned for its traditions and warm hospitality. However, in 2011, a tsunami devastated the resort, where it remained vacant for over a decade. Now, in 2023, Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort, is reopening, bringing back the magic of this enchanting retreat.

Under Construction Since 2019

The resort’s restoration has been carefully designed to maintain the land’s integrity and honor the original Kona Village. The architecture blends seamlessly with its lush landscape with raised thatched hales and organic-inspired elements. Sustainability is at the forefront, with the resort relying solely on solar power and boasting a zero-waste commitment, paving the way for future Hawaiian resorts. As one of the largest privately owned microgrids in the state, Kona Village sets an example for green hospitality.

Arrival Experience

One of our clients was invited to visit the property during its grand opening and captured this stunningly exclusive footage.

The resort is a 15-minute drive from Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) or approximately a 2-hour drive from Hilo International Airport (ITO). There are daily direct flights into Kona International Airport with major air carriers from the U.S. West Coast — Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, Seattle — plus Denver and Phoenix, and seasonally from Vancouver and Anchorage.

We can arrange for a luxury resort vehicle to pick you up from the airport and transport you to the resort.

An Assortment of Luxury Bungalows

Over the span of 81 acres, Kona Village guests can choose to stay in one of the 150 meticulously crafted standalone bungalows, seamlessly blending Hawaiian heritage with contemporary luxury. All accommodations include an oversized lanai and many include a private outdoor shower. The bungalows are broken down into rooms, suites, signature suites, and accessible accommodations. While it may seem overwhelming, we’ve carefully highlighted the best options that will live up to our client’s expectations.

Rooms (Hale)

Each hale is a standalone bungalow with palm-thatched roofs, paying homage to the original structures of Kona Village. The size of each room (hale) is around 600 square feet and accommodates up to three guests with the choice of one King or two Queen beds. Choose from a mountain, garden, lagoon, ocean, oceanfront, or beachfront view for these rooms.

Pro Tip: The most unique room choices in this category are the Ocean Front Legacy Hale or the Tree Top King Hale.

There are a select few hales that sit on the foundation of the original Kona Village that were grandfathered in due to their historical and cultural significance – these are the Ocean Front Legacy Hales. They are pretty special and are perched on top of the lava rock that makes up their shoreline! Though they are smaller in square footage and do not have an outdoor shower, you will not find accommodations closer to the ocean than these!

The Tree Top King Hale (formerly known as Partial Ocean View Hale) is perched on a hillside and offers 850 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor space. It comes with an oversized lanai with a unique hanging daybed, spacious bathroom, soaking tub, outdoor rain shower, king bed, and sprawling views overlooking the heart of the resort and Kahuwai Bay. Suites (Kauhale)

There are 37 suites (or kauhale) to choose from. Each suite features outdoor showers, an oversized lanai, and oceanfront views. These one and two-bedroom suites start at 1,000 square feet, feature one King and two Queen beds and most sleep up to six guests. You have the same stunning views to choose from: a mountain, garden, lagoon, or ocean view.

Elegant and Spacious Accommodations

The hotel boasts 85 rooms and suites and is among the largest in the city. The rooms start at 467 square feet for the lead-in Superior rooms. Deluxe rooms begin at 479 square feet, while the executive category offers the most space starting at 490 square feet. The rooms are designed with a minimalist approach, creating an elegant atmosphere with a classic contemporary style featuring soothing colors of browns, beiges, silver, and white. Despite the hotel’s busy location, the windows are designed to effectively soundproof the rooms from outside noise.

The bathrooms boast an elegant finish of black marble adorned with white veins and are all meticulously crafted from a single block of exquisite Manquina marble imported from Spain. Each bathroom is equipped with both soaking tubs and refreshing rain showers, although certain design choices might raise an eyebrow. In specific room categories, the bathroom doors are made with silver mesh screens encased in glass- undoubtedly attractive but lacking in their ability to block out light. Consequently, an early morning shower for one unavoidably disrupts a slumbering companion.

Perhaps the hotel’s most talked about space is its impressive 24,000-square-foot spa and wellness sanctuary, even taking the title of “Best Spa in London” in 2021 by the Good SPA GUIDE 2021 AWARDS. Located across two of the five underground floors at the hotel, the spa offers everything from an 82-foot swimming pool to 11 private treatment rooms. The pool is fully heated and stays open daily until 9 pm. Or, book the double spa suite, replete with its own steam room, Jacuzzi & private treatment room for an ultraluxe wellness experience. During his visit, David pointed out all the impeccable details that went into designing this hotel. Luggage racks are custom made from black leather with Bulgari branding. Minibars are set within a Bulgari steamer trunk with a rosewood interior. The casing of the flat screen TVs are custom designed, as were the exercise machines in the gym. The half Olympic sized pool has a mosaic of gold and emerald colored mosaic tiles with pool cabanas for guests (although the room is too warm and humid to want to sit by an indoor pool). The vitality pool (very large jacuzzi) is lined with silver mosaic tiles. The hotel has a 47 seat theatre with the largest and highest resolution (4K) screen of any hotel cinema in the UK, and there is a library of 500 movies that guests can access from their in-room television system.

Luxury Services the Moment You Arrive in Mexico

Travel time to One&Only Mandarina has recently been reduced to under one hour. Guests arriving at Puerto Vallarta International Airport and traveling to One&Only Mandarina will now experience a reduced journey time to the resort with the opening of a new highway that connects Bucerias to El Monteon – the town closest to the resort, making the journey shorter and safer. The travel time from the airport has been reduced from approximately 1.5 hours to 45 minutes. Clients of Ourisman Travel will be escorted from the airport to the resort in one of the hotel’s luxury Mercedes-Benz V-Class vehicles.

Upon arrival, guests are immediately greeted by friendly staff. During check-in, guests are also assigned their dedicated butler and an assistant butler who will cater to them for the duration of their stay.

One of the first things you may notice is just how widespread this resort is. Depending on where your villa is located, it could take around 10 minutes to get somewhere by escorted buggy, but the roads are well-paved through the jungle and wind up the hillside. Every turn of every trail reveals another Insta-worthy vista deserving of framing. Another part of what makes the resort so exceptional is that all 105 villas are secluded, stand-alone, and built into the stunning rock face of the coastal rainforest. Therefore, you can experience unparalleled privacy with epic views without worrying about treading on other guests.

Tokyo, the bustling heart of Japan, is a city of contrasts, blending the vibrant energy of a metropolis with moments of tranquility. Amid this harmonious city lies Four Seasons Tokyo at Marunouchi, one of two Four Seasons hotels in Tokyo and a boutique hotel that offers unparalleled luxury and convenience for travelers exploring the city. Meg from Team O recently stayed here and can speak from personal experience as to what makes this hotel one of our top recommendations for your stay in Tokyo.

Luxury Amenities and Personalized Service

Although Four Seasons Tokyo is a boutique hotel with only 57 rooms, it aims to provide exquisite service and attention to detail. This is one of the smallest hotels in the Four Seasons portfolio with an ambiance that is intimate and relaxing; like coming home. From the moment you arrive at the airport to the moment you check out of the hotel, the staff goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is nothing short of exceptional. They even make the effort to address guests by their names, adding a personalized touch to your stay.

Despite its location in central Tokyo, the hotel is buffered from outside distractions by triple-glazed windows and a secluded, cocoon-like position; tucked away from the busy street it sits on. Most of the hotel facilities including the restaurants and spa are on the seventh floor. This makes for great city views from all sides of the hotel and assures little to no noise coming from the busy streets below.

Upon arrival at Narita Airport (NRT), Meg was greeted by a Four Seasons driver just beyond customs, making it quick and easy to locate him before the 45-minute drive to the hotel. For first-timers leery of getting to and from places during their stay, the hotel offers a greeting service in which guests can be escorted by a staff member to and from the airport or the train station. The hotel is located within a 5-minute walk of the Tokyo train station and this greeting service can come in very clutch when navigating the chaotic station — the attendant walked Meg all the way through the station to her train car! Now that’s service.

Stylish Rooms with Captivating Views

The rooms at Four Seasons Tokyo at Marunouchi are spacious by Tokyo’s standards, ranging from 44 to 65 square meters. With only a handful of rooms on each floor, you can expect privacy and very little noise during your stay. The contemporary design, employing natural woods and neutral color schemes of ecru and charcoal or off-white and back, offset by splashes of color creates a relaxing atmosphere with an abundance of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Each room features high-quality amenities, including wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, Bose stereos, leather-covered desks, and international power ports. Plush carpeting, USB docks, and multidirectional lamps add to the convenience and comfort of your room.

The enormous Italian limestone bathtub was a personal favorite of Meg’s and each bathroom is complete with bidet toilets placed behind frosted glass panels and separate showers, complete with L’Occitane toiletries. To go above and beyond, the hotel adds daily fresh flowers and fruit trays to your room.

For an upgraded experience, the hotel houses nine suites, including one-bedroom options with separate living areas and a Chairman’s Suite, featuring its own 10-seat dining room and home theater system.

Pro Tip: Room numbers that end in 03-07 have the most encapsulating train station views, perfect for showcasing the city that never sleeps with the constant action of trains, lights, and traffic abuzz at all hours from within soundproofed quarters.

Unforgettable Culinary Experiences

Food enthusiasts will be delighted by the dining options at Four Seasons Tokyo at Marunouchi. The hotel boasts two exceptional restaurants that cater to diverse palates.

Sézanne is a two-Michelin-starred French culinary haven. Ranked as the number two restaurant on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List 2023 and Best Restaurant in Japan on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023, Sézanne offers a gastronomic journey that you will surely remember for years to come. The cuisine is seasonally updated and is plated with precision. Choose from a variety of eclectic champagne bottles and classic desserts. Reservations in advance are a must!

The hotel’s second restaurant, Maison, is a Parisian-style bistro that provides stunning views of the Shinkansen bullet trains and cityscapes. Often our highest-selling hotel in the world, the Four Seasons Maui has a strong following of loyal fans, and our clients often return year after year. But, we’ve learned that it’s not for everyone. While most people are hard-pressed to find a complaint about the hotel’s staff and high level of service, some people don’t like the resort layout or “see and be seen” ambiance.

The Four Seasons Maui is our most popular destination for couples, especially honeymooners. Guests celebrating a special occasion should indulge in everything the property has to offer especially the adults-only sanctuary pool and the spa. And, for a little adventure, be sure to give the outrigger canoeing a whirl!

The rooms themselves are spacious and nicely furnished. We particularly enjoyed the punch of personality in the bathroom carpets and the breezy balconies perfect for a morning coffee. Pro tip: for the most desirable views of the Pacific Ocean, we recommend the Deluxe Ocean-View rooms.

Top-notch luxury service is the real highlight here. The Four Seasons Maui does not charge a resort fee and you will never feel “nickel and dimed.” In fact, Maui is the only Four Seasons in North America to offer exclusive Club Level accommodations. For a more secluded pool experience, check out the adults-only Serenity pool, but book a cabana in advance; this area fills up fast! If you are traveling with kids, we recommend taking advantage of the Kids For All Seasons program (also complimentary).

Pro tip: If your trip only allows for time on one island, Maui is a great choice because it offers a little bit of everything. The activity selection is broad, and visitors can enjoy beautiful beaches, quality snorkeling, great hikes and drives, good shopping, and excellent dining!

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai

Along with its sister property on Maui, Four Seasons Hualalai is one of our top-selling hotels in the world. This is a spacious resort whose guest rooms and suites are arranged in four oceanside crescents and a fifth group of rooms alongside the 18th green of the resort’s golf course… five resorts within the resort. We recommend the Palm Grove Crescent for honeymooners and romantic getaways, more secluded with its own adults-only Tranquility Pool. We loved our room on the second floor overlooking Palm Grove. Ground floors feature outdoor showers, however, the second floor has more serene views and an additional level of privacy.

For activities at the resort, families love Sea Shell Crescent which features a pool meant for active play. We also recommend King’s Pond, which is a new infinity-edge elevated pool that sits on lava rock and is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Hualalai has an incredible spa with your choice of indoor or outdoor treatment areas, a choice of wonderful restaurants, and once again, complimentary Kids for All Seasons programs for children. We also suggest shopping at The Trade Company Shop for some ice cream, smoothies, coffee, and some beer and wine and charging your items straight to your room!

Four Seasons Hualalai recently went through some renovations. All suites and rooms have been elevated while maintaining their authenticity. There is a new oceanfront Bungalow Zero near King’s Pond, which houses the new Kekaha Suite on the second floor and the new Kahuwai Suite on the ground floor. There are also incredible newly renovated multi-bedroom residential villas: the Makaloa Villa, Ho`onanea Villa, and Hawaii Loa Presidential Villa. These bungalows offer walking access to the beach and provide an opportunity for families to experience a high-end house rental without compromising any of the benefits and amenities of a Four Seasons.

Visitors to the Big Island can think BIG for their activities! See a live volcano with a hot lava flow, take a helicopter ride for skiing and surfing on the same day, spend the night snorkeling in the dark with Manta Rays, join the locals, and go cliff jumping… this island is everything except boring!

Pro tip: Hualalai was our personal favorite of the Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii for families. They have a large kids club with indoor and outdoor space and plenty of scheduled activities to keep the kids happy throughout the day.

Four Seasons Resort Lana’i

This Four Seasons hotel is a must-see in Hawaii; it is a game changer for luxury hotels worldwide, and we would be hard-pressed to pick any one thing that makes this resort so special; it is the complete package. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and very well-appointed (the bathrooms alone could sell this hotel). We particularly love the Ohana Prime Oceanfront Suite; it is spacious and perfect for families with children. The completely rebuilt pool complex offers perfect separation between the main family-friendly pool and the serene adults-only grotto complete with relaxing waterfalls.

While we do think that Lanai is best enjoyed when coupled with a stay on Maui, there’s still plenty to do on the island.

Pro tip: We recommend Four Seasons Lana’i for the outdoor adventurer. Even though this is a relatively small island compared to the others, it boasts some of the most diverse and unique landscapes. You’ll want to carve out time to explore the island’s famous shipwrecks, take a whale and dolphin watching excursion, hike to Sweetheart Rock, try your hand at archery, play a round of golf, go horseback riding, tuck into a big plate of the freshest sushi, visit the island’s history museum, and relax poolside after a spa treatment. If you are traveling without kids, we advocate pairing your stay with Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort.

Often overlooked for a luxury vacation, we think of Oahu as the hidden gem amongst the islands. Oahu is much different than the other Four Seasons Resort. Think Miami high rise. However, guest rooms offer breathtaking ocean views, creating a personal sanctuary within this all-encompassing luxury resort. You can dive into the refreshing pools and lagoons, with an array of water sports available at the resort’s beach. Engage in activities like tennis and golf, unwind at the spa, start your day with sunrise yoga, or embark on a deep-sea fishing adventure at the marina.

Pro tip: While Four Seasons Oahu may be our last resort amongst all of the hotels listed, we can’t deny that it is another great family-friendly destination, offering plenty of exhilarating water activities for all ages. It shares a beach with Disney Aulani, so if you’re looking for a secluded vacation, we recommend staying at a different Four Seasons. In our opinion, Four Seasons Oahu provides the quintessential Hawaiian vacation experience, embracing the island’s rich traditions and culture. If your air travel flies you in or out of HNL, it may make sense to prioritize Oahu as an option, however, we highly recommend pairing your stay with another Four Seasons property to get a well-rounded experience.
