During pregnancy, there’s nothing a woman wants to do more than relax and be pampered. Life is about to get a lot more hectic, so taking the extra time for R&R is very important. This is the concept of a Babymoon exists and has become so popular. Babymoons are what many could call a honeymoon 2.0, a time to get away for expecting moms and their partners to reconnect before welcoming their new baby into the world.  Whether you travel early in your pregnancy to a faraway destination or stay closer to home as your due date approaches, there are a variety of hotels and resorts that will meet your needs. We have highlighted some properties with particularly luxurious spas, special offer packages and amenities specifically for the parents-to-be. Though there is no one perfect destination to take that last getaway, these destinations should be on your babymoon bucket list.

BAHAMAS

Ah, the Bahamas…someplace warm, not too hot, especially if you make this a winter getaway. It’s the perfect temperature to avoid too many layers. Island Hopping: The Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands are a collection of 112 islands forming the border between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Of those 112 islands, 82 belong to the United States and 30 belong to Britain. The majority of these islands remain uninhabited, with only four inhabited islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI): St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John, and Water Island, and four inhabited islands in the British Virgin Islands (BVI): Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and Anegada. 

With such a wide variety of paradise destinations so close to one another, why pass up the opportunity to explore both the U.S. and the British Virgin Islands in one sweep!? This is hardly just another Caribbean vacation. We’re giving you the inside scoop on our four favorite properties in the Virgin Islands! Each has its own unique personality and is well worth the visit.

Whether you’re a seasoned visitor or if it’s your first time in the Virgin Islands and you’re not sure where to start; this beginner’s guide to island hopping in the Virgin Islands is for you!

The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

An easily accessible destination and a great place to begin, as direct flights to St. Thomas arrive daily from Miami, Atlanta, Orlando, Charlotte, Philadelphia, New York, Washington Dulles, and Boston. In addition, the property is located very close to Red Hook; home to the main ferry port.

Upon arrival, you will immediately feel the luxury and relaxation of the property. Set on 30 acres, the Ritz Carlton St. Thomas reopened in December 2019 after the devastations of Hurricane Maria and Irma in 2017. The property has undergone an extensive renovation, bringing forward top of the line luxury and experiences.

Overlooking the turquoise waters of Great Bay, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas is a secluded hideaway set amid stunning white-sand beaches and lush tropical gardens. This hotel’s reputation as one of the best in the USVI is well deserved, and its new makeover puts it on par with some of the best upscale resorts in all of the Caribbean. In true to old-school Ritz form, this property takes your breath away with an elegant yet chic and contemporary flavor. It is evident that not a corner of this property went unnoticed when designing with the guest in mind, always.

Necker Island

Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

When traveling by ferry from St. John to Virgin Gorda, it is about an hour and a half, including one-stop on St. John to pick up passengers. Because you will be leaving the United States you will have to clear Customs and Immigration when you arrive. This typically only takes 15-20 minutes. Please note, these ferry rides do not run every day and we at Ourisman Travel are happy to help you coordinate scheduling in this journey through the Virgin Islands to be as seamless as possible!

Necker, Sir Richard Branson’s private island paradise, is a stunning and extremely private area of the Caribbean. At 74 acres, Necker sits in turquoise waters surrounded by coral reefs and decorated with beautiful white sandy beaches. The island can be rented exclusively or you can enjoy the Necker experience by taking a room as a couple, individual or family for a 7-night stay during selected weeks throughout the year, known as ‘Celebration Weeks’.

Accommodation on Necker Island includes 11 bedrooms in the Great House, the Bali Lo complex composed of Bali Lo, Bali Buah, and Bali Kukila and a new Bali House, named, Leha Lo. There are a total of 17 bedrooms plus the bunk room on the island with space for additional guests available upon request. Beginning in December 2019, two additional rooms in the Temple House have been added, bringing the total number of rooms to 17.

The island is particularly known for The Baths, a beach area with scenic caves and “baths” – small pools of pristine water hidden between the caves. Although the caves do require a bit of climbing up and down, young kids successfully are able to experience, deeming it an appropriate excursion for most ages. Necker Island is just about as exclusive as it gets! Be sure not to miss out on Necker’s famous floating sushi bar in the beach pool!

This is the final stop on our Virgin Islands island-hopping adventure. An eco-friendly resort, Rosewood Little Dix Bay was one of the first Caribbean resorts to promote sustainable luxury. This beachside retreat is situated on one of the Caribbean’s finest shorelines. The luxury resort is in harmony with its surrounding nature of Virgin Gorda, an island of volcanic origin featuring rugged hills, quiet coves, and unspoiled beaches.

Virtual Museum Tours

From the comfort of your couch, you can experience some of the world’s most famous museums thanks to technology. Seeing it through a screen and first-hand are obviously totally different experiences but we feel it can be a pivotal step in the dreaming stage of your trip planning. You can explore some of the most famous museums virtually, including the National Museum of History, the Guggenheim, or many others we’ve found here.

Major Paris museums like the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay are virtually available to explore thanks to Google Arts and Culture. This online platform provides digital tours of over 2,500 museums and galleries around the world. Featured collections for each museum vary but most include digital exhibits as well as a “street view”.

Some institutions such as the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and the San Diego Museum of Art also offer virtual tours of their own. These tours are led by museum guides, taking viewers through collections in the museum just as they would if you were there in person. Some museums have even made educational materials available to the public for free including scientific articles and videos on topics like climate change and human health. If you’re looking for information geared towards your younger ones, some museums have made science classes, games, and quizzes for kids available on the museum’s website.

Taste the World

You know what they say – pasta is always better in Italy and macaroons are never the same once you’ve tasted them in Paris. And just because the best foods of a destination may not be within reach on a daily basis for you, doesn’t mean you can’t bring the flavors to your kitchen.

Some chefs at hotels around the world even offer virtual cooking classes! Renowned Italian chef Massimo Bottura—the restauranteur behind Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy offers his culinary insights through daily cooking classes on Instagram Live, @massimobottura . He even addresses recipe questions after making the meals from tuned-in viewers.

When we think about it, we oftentimes have some amount of free time of our hands that could be put to use. Context Conversations

The internet is an amazing place! Context Travel is a unique platform offering what they call “Context Conversations“. These seminars are led by scholars are a place to discover more about a destination or museum.

You can select the date and time for your seminar here, and then enjoy learning and conversation from the comfort of home! Each seminar is live and lasts about 90 minutes, with 15 to 30 minutes at the end of the session for conversation and questions. They anticipate adding more dates, times, and topics to the platform and are open to feedback as to what you might be interested in learning about!

Live Stream Views

Who said you have to leave your living room to see what’s happening around the world? Many of our favorite hotels and destinations offer live streaming so you can experience their destination in real-time!

Another New York City art institution, 92Y, has made its online archives—which contain hundreds of recordings of readings, concerts, and educational talks—free to the public during this time. Many people do not know New York City Broadway has a streaming platform, BroadwayHD. The site has a hefty archive of Broadway performances with everything from Cats (1998) and Swan Lake (2015) to Sweeney Todd (1982).

The Berlin Philharmonic, the legendary German orchestra, also offers an online video streaming service, Digital Concert Hall. Offering archival performances to home audiences, enjoy the soothing sounds of the orchestra while working or relaxation in your home.

Other major opera houses and concert halls around the world offer similar archival performances including the Paris Opera, London’s Wigmore Hall, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Just last week, MLB teams gathered in locations across Arizona and Florida to prepare for Opening Day with 4 weeks of Spring Training fun in the sun! Major League baseball is split into two spring training leagues: the Cactus and Grapefruit leagues.  Check out where your favorite team will be this spring and our recommendations for the best hotel experiences in each area.
