Medjet is not travel insurance, and it does not cover medical expenses. We always recommend travel protection through companies like Travelex that does offer primary medical expense coverage while traveling.
Well versed travelers know that when it comes to taking a trip, anything can happen. From extreme weather to delayed or canceled flights to illness and everything in between, there’s always something that can negatively impact your leisure time. There are a few instances when purchasing travel insurance makes sense to protect your investment in your leisure time.
We always advise our clients who are purchasing an advance purchase, nonrefundable rate to consider travel insurance. These rates are the least forgiving and if they need to be canceled for any reason the investment into the trip is lost. We also encourage our clients to purchase travel insurance when booking a hotel stay or a trip with an extended cancelation policy, which we consider to be anything longer than 30 days. These policies are oftentimes introduced during a hotel’s peak season, or if you are traveling during festive season. Once a stay or trip falls within cancellation either a deposit or full payment will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation and often times cannot be transferred or recuperated.
Our travel insurance partner, Travelex, offers comprehensive travel insurance, is a trusted partner in the industry, and offers our clients the ability to quote and book their own insurance! We suggest the Travelex Select plan for our clients because it offers a higher level of coverage and includes travelers under the age of 17 – making them free on the policy purchased. The Travelex Select plan also offers a Cancel For Any Reason Add On. The Cancel For Any Reason Add On is a much more flexible plan and holds to its “any reason” commitment really well, though it does have some limitations and only covers 75% of the cost of the trip (for Florida residents is 50%) but many clients have found that the benefit is worth the investment. When you travel, here are a few important tips to keep yourself safe and healthy.
Do some research in advance on the destination you are visiting:
The CDC issues guidelines based on levels 1-3. Level 3 being countries that should be avoided for all nonessential travel. You should also find out what the COVID-19 outbreak is like where you’re going. Johns Hopkins provides a very detailed map of the world and links to individual country’s health services pages, which will be useful in planning your travel. Johns Hopkins also has a detailed map of the United States if your travel is domestic. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html
It is also important to know whether or not you will have to stay at home for 14 days upon your return if needed. If a quarantine is implemented where you are planning on traveling, we are happy to reschedule your reservations to a new set of dates to avoid any potential quarantine upon arrival or return.
Keep your immune system strong even before you travel:
Adequate sleep, healthy eating, regular exercise, and stress management all can go a long way in keeping your immune system strong even before you start your journey.
Flying, it’s smart to be prepared:
Air travel requires spending time in security lines and airport terminals, which can bring you in close contact with other people and frequently touched surfaces. So if possible, check-in online so you can avoid touching kiosk screens and interactions with people.
Wear a mask, wear gloves, limit your interactions with people and shared items, maintain social distance, be mindful not to touch your face, and—as always—wash your hands!
The TSA allows you to bring 12 ounces of hand sanitizer in your carry-on. So, don’t think that you need to ration your hand sanitizer use!
Research what your airline is doing in regards to precautions with COVID-19 as well as the necessary disinfecting procedures they are taking post and pre-flights. Airlines such as Airlines for America (A4A)—which include Delta, JetBlue, American, United, Southwest, Hawaiian, and Alaskan Airlines, are in fact, requiring passengers and staff to wear masks all the way through from check-in, boarding and deplaning—as well as using precautionary tactics such as back-to-front boarding, staggering passengers, and not selling middle seats.
Take a road-trip!
If you want a vacation, but would rather not fly, go for a road trip! There are so many hotels within drivings distance that are open and ready for your arrival! Lucky for you, we partner with hotels all over the States and can guarantee there is a paradise waiting for you.
Be in the know on how Hotels are keeping guests safe:
As travel restrictions lift and hotels open back up, travelers can expect to see housekeeping front and center in hotels. Many hotels are implementing rigorous cleaning protocols and mandating waiting periods after rooms are vacated.
Apps will be used more often for touch-less check-in or even contact-free room service.
Some hotels will use thermal imagining to perform discreet temperature checks. Others may require a temperature check upon arrival, and most will require employee temperature checks on a regular basis.
There will be hand sanitizer stations and welcome amenities may include protective and sanitizing products.

Manage expectations:
Expect fewer services at hotels, limited seating in bars and restaurants, capacity limitations at pools. Hotel restaurants may require you to use an app or provide a digital menu.
Consider if you would potentially be in large gatherings that would put you or your travel companions at greater risk.

Decompress:
Given how stressful the news is these days it’s natural to feel concerned and anxious – but it’s also important to not let those feelings overwhelm you. Two years after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, Ourisman Travel returned to one of our favorite properties, Dorado Beach, A Ritz Carlton Reserve, to check out how the acclaimed property rose from the wreckage. And it is safe to say Dorado Beach did not disappoint. In fact, one might say that the property came back better than ever and is more than ready to welcome guests back to this one of a kind destination.
Dorado Beach has held the distinction as one of the most special destinations in the Caribbean for decades and its history dates back to the 1950s when it first opened as a resort. While the property has changed hands several times in its long life, it has always been geared towards eco-friendly luxury. The property opened under the Ritz Carlton umbrella in 2012 as the first Reserve in the Americas and from the start it was wildly successful. After Hurricane Maria in 2015, Ritz Carlton decided to expedite its 7-year renovation plan and, on top of reconstructing the 1,400 acres of damaged grounds, a complete interior renovation was put underway. It is apparent that no expense was spared in the revitalization project.
The guest rooms, which are more like private villas than a traditional room one finds at other hotels, feature a light and fresh color palette and all of the updated tech that luxury travelers are used to finding. Each room features ocean views seen through floor to ceiling sliding glass doors that open to either a private balcony or terrace. As if this isn’t enough to make any guest swoon, private plunge pools that align with the beachfront can be found in most of the 114 rooms. And to top it off, each room comes with its own Embajador who provides butler and concierge services and will go above and beyond to perform sterling service and ensure all guests’ needs are met.
Families that want to visit Dorado Beach can take advantage of 29 Reserve Residences that have direct beach access and are within walking distance to the properties guest facilities, though a golf cart is provided for each residence as well. These residences are spacious and offer full kitchens, living areas, and up to 5 bedrooms. If guests don’t feel like cooking in the kitchens they are able to hire a private chef to take care of their meals. Getting There
Ireland offers three major airports spread across the country, helping you get in and out with ease. Ireland’s largest airport where most roundtrip tickets take you is the at the airport hub in Dublin. Airports in Shannon (Galway) and Belfast also provide international travelers a way to get in/out of the country while avoiding Dublin. When you do arrive in Ireland, we highly recommend renting a car to get around the country with ease.
We recommend starting out your trip in Northern Ireland (which is part of the UK), which has seen a huge spike in tourism in recent years. From Game of Thrones filming locations, to music festivals, to murals and wall art, there’s plenty going on for such a compact city. Without further ado, here are just a few of our favorite things about Northern Ireland’s capital.
Belfast was the birth place of the infamous Titanic, and you will want to check out the new Titanic Museum. Take a step back in time and learn all about how the Titanic was built, the laborers who created the famous ‘unsinkable’ ship, and how its sinking affected the entire city and the ship building industry across the world.
The biggest must-do in Northern Ireland is to hop in a rental car and head up to the Giant’s Causeway. The Causeway is a place where myth and science meet. Here, spectacular basalt columns were formed through the rapid cooling of lava from an underwater volcano, or, as some may say, were created by the legendary mythical Irish giant, Finn McCool. After you visit the Causeway, head over to old Bushmills Whiskey, which is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world, for lunch and a tasting. If you want the full Northern Ireland experience, be sure to check out Dunluce Castle. This castle is just a few minutes from the Giant’s Causeway and provides some of the most iconic scenery in all of Ireland.
Our top recommend hotel in the Belfast area is the Culloden Estate. This is the most prestigious hotel in Northern Ireland. The house was originally built as the official palace for the Bishops of County Down; today, it boasts a regal atmosphere, brimming with antiques, original artwork and sumptuous accommodations, and the property is just 15 minutes outside of downtown.
Accommodations in downtown Belfast can be a little tricky to navigate, but if you want to be in the heart of Belfast we would recommend the Grand Central Belfast. This hotel property is right next to city hall and has Belfast’s best pub, the Crown Liquor Saloon, right in its back yard.
Dublin is a lively capital city that’s as intimate as a village and as friendly as your local Irish pub. With its seamless blend of classic visitor sights, excellent social scene and the natural playgrounds of Dublin Bay and the Dublin Mountains framing it on all sides, this laidback city is an adventure in itself.
Dublin is a major European city with countless activities and tours. Dublin is world renewed for it pubs and live music. There is no better place in the city to experience this besides the Temple Bar area. This neighborhood is filled with multiple bars on each block, all with some sort of live music on any given night. Of course, a trip to Dublin would not be complete without a trip to the Guinness brewery and storehouse. For any whiskey enthusiast, the Jameson Distillery on Bow Street is only a few blocks away from Guinness.
In terms of accommodations, in the city we have two favorites. The first being the Merrion Hotel.The Merrion, Dublin’s most stylish five-star hotel, is perfectly located in the city center. Housed in four Georgian townhouses and a contemporary Garden Wing, its bedrooms and suites surround two 18th-century-style gardens. Stunningly restored interiors provide the perfect backdrop for one of Ireland’s most impressive private art collections.
We are also quite fond of The Shelbourne. This exceptional luxury property is set in a hundreds-year-old building and is the premier city centre hotel in Dublin. The hotel overlooks St. Stephen’s Green, and is minutes from Dublin’s most famous attractions, including Trinity College, shopping on Grafton Street and the Spire.
To really experience Ireland, you will want to get away from the big cities to explore the quaint small towns and green pastures that have made Ireland famous for its emerald color. The Wild Atlantic Way is a sensational journey of soaring cliffs, buzzing towns, hidden beaches and epic bays. So whether you drive it from end-to-end, or dip into it as the mood strikes, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Sitting on the coast in the middle of the Wild Atlantic Way is Galway. Galway has a reputation for art, creativity and a sense of adventure that’s hard to find anywhere else. From music and horse-racing to literature and oysters, Galway is bursting with festivals and fun. So it’s no wonder Galway has been picked as one of Lonely Planet’s top 10 cities in the world to visit.

A can’t-miss activity on the Wild Atlantic way is seeing the Cliffs of Moher. When you make your pilgrimage to the Cliffs of Moher, you’re coming for one of two things: the staggering height of the rock face, and the even more staggering beauty of the views from the top. Soaring to 214m, the striated stone reaches its long fingers southward to counties Cork and Kerry beyond, with a keen eye from O’Brien’s Tower even able to spot the Aran Islands to the north.
