If you’ve ever watched Jurassic Park, The Descendants, or Blue Hawaii, then you’ve seen what Kauai looks like. The rainiest of the islands, Kauai is also the most lush and green. It offers visitors dramatic cliffside with rushing waterfalls, deep canyons, a large tropical botanic garden, and an excellent sense of adventure. Zip lining, tubing, kayaking, snorkel cruises, jeep tours, hiking, and helicopter tours are all on offer! Admittedly, the best resorts are not located on the best beaches. So, Kauai is a good beach-hopping island; rent a car, pack a picnic, and go exploring to find your favorite beach spot!
Hotels: We recommend 3 hotels on Kauai and each offers a unique aesthetic:
- St. Regis Princeville: This is the classic luxury option with large, well appointed rooms and top-notch service. It’s located on the rainier side of Kauai, but that location is very convenient to the best hiking, snorkeling, and golf on the island.
- Grand Hyatt Kauai: This large, family-friendly resort offers something for everyone. There’s a kids camp with plenty of activities, plenty of dining options, and a beautiful spa. The large pool complex features a water slide, lazy river, and a saltwater lagoon. You can see Jessica’s photos from her site-inspection of the resort here with a few bonus shots from her Kauai zip-lining excursion!
- Koa Kea: While it is not Virtuoso and does not offer the same level of perks or amenities, we are big fans of this quirky, boutique property right next to Poipu beach. It is a great option for someone looking for something intimate with a good dose of personality. We frequently recommend it for couples and honeymooners!
