Sossusvlei Namibia, Little Kulala

Little Kulala, a Wilderness Premier Camp, is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the Namib Desert. Located on a private land concession bordering the Namib-Naukluft National Park, home to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, two famous salt and clay pans surrounded by massive sand dunes. With a private gate to the Sossusvlei park, guests staying at Little Kulala get the best of all worlds. They can explore the landscape without disturbance from any other visitor and they can venture into the park to see the famous sand dunes and Deadvlei; the private gate allows for convenient early access before the crowds and makes for a quick retreat back to the camp when the exploring is complete.

Each room at the camp is a standalone bungalow with loads of natural light and plenty of room to spread out. They are probably due for a minor refresh and I do think the room layout could use improvement, but these are small complaints when considered in the big picture of the overall experience. Little perks like a private plunge pool, complimentary mini bar, outdoor shower, and rooftop star bed really add to the luxury experience here. The staff is friendly and service is polished and the best meals I had on the trip were from Little Kulala.

Highlights during my visit to Sossusvlei an Little Kulala include:

1) Sundowners on a beautiful rocky mountainside

Every sunset in Namibia was gorgeous, but this one was my favorite

2) An energetic sunrise hike up “Big Daddy,” the largest sand dune in the park

We hiked along the sand done and then ran down the kill in the sand to Deadvlei - great fun!
